About Rod Lopez

Rod Lopez, Founder of New Style Independent Pictures, is a former minor league player with the Baltimore Orioles. Rod attended the New York Film Academy’s film program in 2000. There, he studied Film Directing and Cinematography. While at NYFA, Rod produced and directed four short movies including “Blood & Death, the film premiered in 2001 along with Rod’s second short “Cuban”, at Madison Square Garden in the New York International Film Festival. In the spring of 2001, he graduated from Towson University with a Bachelor’s degree in TV and Film Production. Following that, he worked as Programming Manager for CCTV channel 19, a Local Television Station in Baltimore, MD. While working at Channel 19, Rod produced more than 100 shows including “Mission of Mercy”, featuring game-show host Pat Sajak, “Sports Ministry” featuring NFL coach Marvin Lewis, “Ring True Foundation” featuring former NBA star Manute Bol and many more. He was the director for “Notivariedades de Maryland” A weekly news magazine show that aired on Univision, Washington in the spring of 2003.  in 2004, Rod directed his first feature film, Pizza Palace, which premiered to a sold out audience at the Senator Theatre. He is also the host of his own web comedy show “The Rod Lopez Show”. Rod has been featured in a number of Newspapers and magazines including “The Baltimore Sun,” “The Howard County Times,” The Daily Record,” “Filmmaker Magazine,” “El Nacional” and a front cover issue on “The Towerlight Magazine”

In the past 3 years, rod has been extremely busy in the indie film scene where he has directed a vast number of music videos as well as the films “Dating License” starring Luis Lopez and international film and Television star Ivonne Montero and  ”Cleaning Law” also starring Luis Lopez. He also directed “Brujeria Fantasma: Ghost Witchcraft” starring Angie Jerez. Most recently, he directed two short films “Sedan de Villain” and “Code 72″, the latter he hopes to turn into a full length feature film in 2012.
